This guide outlines the general process for setting up the Netgear Nighthawk AX3000 WiFi 6 router, with notes for other Nighthawk AX models. Specific features or menu layouts may vary slightly based on the exact model.
- Check the package for the router, power adapter, Ethernet cable, and Quick Start guide.
- Place the router in a central, elevated location for optimal coverage.
Connect the Router to the Internet
- Plug one end of the Ethernet cable into your ONT and the other end into the router’s yellow WAN port.
- Ensure the ONT is powered on.
Power On the Router
- Connect the power adapter to the router and plug it into a power outlet.
- Wait for the Power LED to turn solid white (or green, depending on the model).
Connect to the Router
- Use a device (laptop, smartphone, or tablet) to connect to the router’s default WiFi network.
- The network name (SSID) and password are on the router’s label.
Access the Setup Wizard
- Open a web browser and go to http://routerlogin.net or http://192.168.1.1.

- Username: admin
- Password: password
(You will be prompted to change these later.)
Follow the Setup Wizard
- The wizard will guide you through:
- Detecting your internet connection.
- Setting up a custom SSID and password.

For advanced users or models requiring manual setup:
- Navigate to Advanced > Setup to configure:
- Static IP or dynamic IP for your ISP.
- VLAN/Bridge mode (if required).
- Connect all devices to your new network using the custom SSID and password.

- AX4200/AX6000 Models: Higher-end models may include additional features like tri-band WiFi or a multi-gig port. These will have specific setup instructions in the app or web portal.
